ISR is more than teaching a child to swim, it is about surviving in the water. Your child will learn different skills depending on age, they will either learn how to get into and stay in a float position, or learn a "swim float swim" sequence teaching them to rest and breathe while floating on their back.
The idea for ISR was created by Harvey Barnett PhD in 1966 when he was just 18 years old and working as a lifeguard. Dr. Barnett witnessed the aftermath of a neighbor child drowning, and from there decided to dedicate his life to making sure that "Not one more child drowns" and that philosophy is still the core driving belief behind the organization today.
Our goal is to keep an open line of communication with our students parents. We strive to let you know what we are doing step by step and inform our parents ways to keep your babies safe in and around the water! While the skills the children learn in the water are important, what we teach our parents is equally as important and life saving.
ISR complies with all federal and state laws and regulations and does not unlawfully discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, gender, age, religion, or disability. It is the policy of ISR to provide reasonable accommodations to its disabled applicants and students, with the provision of appropriate documentation of the need for the accommodation.
